On your own device
IBAN, structured communication, payment QR code, national register number, VAT sums, postcodes, public holidays and working days: it all happens in your browser. The lists of banks and postcodes are built into the page itself. Nothing goes to a server of ours or anyone else’s.
The national register number
A national register number never leaves your device. Zegel doesn’t send it anywhere, doesn’t store it, and doesn’t put it in the page address either, so it doesn’t end up in your browser history.
When Zegel does go online
In two places, and only when you press the button. ‘Check in VIES’ sends the country code and the VAT number through Zegel to VIES, the European Commission service. ‘Look up’ in the Peppol tool sends the Peppol ID through Zegel to the Peppol address book (SML, a DNS question), to that company’s Peppol service (SMP) and to the public Peppol Directory run by OpenPeppol. Nothing else: no name, no other fields. Zegel’s servers are in Frankfurt.
What Zegel keeps when it does
Nothing about you. Zegel does not write down the requests and keeps no log. To curb abuse, it briefly counts how many requests come from the same internet address. That address is turned into a code with a secret key straight away (HMAC-SHA-256), so nobody can work the address back out, and the count is gone after a minute.
Technical logs
Like every web server, our hosting provider keeps short technical logs (such as IP address and time of a page visit) to keep the site running safely. We don’t use those logs to track visitors.
